Lake Jacksonville

Map of Lake Jacksonville prepared by Frank W. Ebaugh from a portion of the U. S. Geological Surveys Topographical map made before Lake Jacksonville was developed. This map shows the depth of waters below surface of lake; also, where the old creek channels are–a great map for fishing enthusiasts who want to locate the best sports for angling.

City of Jacksonville developed the lake during the 1950s. It has become a scenic, recreational and retirement area that is truly beautiful. Many fine homes and recreational houses are on the lake front which covers 1,365 surface acres, with average depth of 22 feet. Water sports, swimming and fishing bring not only local residents, but those from distant areas.

The city of Jacksonville owns the land and leases are arranged for those who wish to build. Transfer of leases must be approved by the City Council. Buckner Dam, part of the construction for building the lake, affords a lovely vista of the entire lake area.

The highways to Lake Jacksonville are west side of lake, follow 79W to FM747. East side of lake, take College Avenue (past Lon Morris College) to concession area (about 3 miles). For other southeast areas, follow S. Bolton to FM 347 and then continue on FM2138. The lake area has many turns for specific locations of homes. At this time, there are over 400 building areas on lease from the city.
