"I believe I was told this early library building was on the corner of Larissa Street and Bonner St. (SW corner, across from First Methodist Church."

- Carol Schultz Staton

"The first library I remember in Jacksonville was in the City Hall. I got my first labrary card there."

- Alice Hudnell Lane

"I've determined that this is in fact the library building that was at Larissa and Bonner. I'm not sure of the date that it was opened, but the Jacksonville Library website gives the following description of the building:

"Mr. Dean's perpetual boosting and contributions of money and time by many people, a rough-shingled frame structure 'representing about $800' was built for library purposes at the corner of Larissa and South Bonner streets, directly across Larissa Street from First United Methodist Church, where union services were held in dedication of the small building. . . . In the mid-1920s, problems relative to the property resulted in the closing of the library and storing of books. The structure was moved to Georgia Avenue, and was still in use as a residence in 1972."

Below is a map from 1923, showing the exact location of the building.
