"Owned and operated by Marion Seymour (and Wife Flo, son Alex) until 1965, when it was sold, by auction, to Lucky Fly and wife from Temple. Actually it was auctioned off, and on the same day the old Grandee Motel, owned and operated by Lloyd Way was auctioned as well. I was employed by the Liberty Hotel from early 50's to '65. "

"My mother worked at the Liberty Hotel in the early 60s. She worked there when Michael Landon came to town for the rodeo. Her name was Ollie Cox."

- Loretta Alford

"My mother ( Florence Grimes Wilkinson) worked here about 1945 after my father was killed in Germany. I remember eating oatmeal in the dining room when I would go with her to work. I thought it was like being in the movies. It was so beautiful."

- Charlene Merryman

"Stayed at this hotel when we evacuated from Port Arthur, Tx. I was 6 at the time and my family made the front page picture while we were there. I now have a sister-in-law there and we evacuted back to Jacksonville from Rita in 2005. Wish the old hotel was still there."
