Compiled by Vicki Meador

Obdiah Monroe Meador, born in 1829, in South Carolina, and his wife, the former Mary Frances Meador (no relation), moved to Texas about 1856, with their two children, John Benjamin and Lofton Cudallis, who were born in Mississippi. They settled on a farm in the Corinth community. Three other children were born to this union: Mary Ann, Sissie and Elizabeth J. On June 22, 1869, Mary Frances Meador died and is thought to be one of the first buried in the Meador Cemetery, where many other family members are buried.

Obdiah then married Mary Matilda Hoover, born in 1844 in Knoxville, Tennessee. To this union were born James M., Nancy E., Robert L., Coke, Cora, Carson K., Martha J., Susan E., Ellen, Fannie, Joe Alton and Albert A.

When the Corinth Baptist Church was organized in 1869, Obdiah Meador was among the organizers. Later he moved his letter, with his wife's and granddaughter's, to Craft Baptist Church because he disapproved of feet washing as a church ordinance.

Joe Alton Meador was born near Jacksonville in 1886, and married Sarah (Sally) Henderson, born in 1890. To this union were born Thelma, Cannon Ray, Joe Allen and Mildred Edene. The family lived on a farm near Corinth. He was a member of Woodmen of the World.

Joe Allen Meador married Rachel Baker and they are parents of Ruth Ann, Ray Travis, Allen Wayne, Sherri Dean, Mary Lynn, Judy Kay and Vicki Lee. He is a Baptist minister, having pastored Sardis Baptist Church near Jewett and Shawnee Prairie Baptist Church near Huntington. The family resides near Jacksonville, except Judy Kay, a Dallas resident.
