The Middleton George Family

Facts given by Nora George and Charlie George

Before the turn of the century, Middleton George moved his family to this area. There were nine children, including David, John, Frank, Lafayette, Oliver, Charlie, Linnie, Effie and Martha. Surviving are Charlie, who lives near Jacksonville, and Effie George Ross, who resides near Maydelle.

Oliver, who was born in Cherokee County, married Nora Roycroft in 1914. He died in 1961 at the age of 71. His wife, Nora George, survives and resides near Jacksonville. They had no children.

Charlie married Mary Castler in 1915, and they are parents of nine children, five of whom live in or near Jacksonville. These include three sons, Roy, Lacy and Glen, and two daughters, Berta Mae Lofton and Inez Ashley. Two children live in Irving: Nelson George and Fay Day; Davis George resides in Wilmer. A daughter, Wilma Moore, is living in California.

This pioneer family of farmers is well-remembered by many old-timers.
