Note: She was educated in private schools in Dallas, Texas "and was active in society there until her marriage." She moved to Arlington, Texas in the early 1890s, then to Weatherford, Texas, and back to Arlington about 1921. Her survivors included a brother, four sons, a daughter, and seven grandchildren. 1

note: "In 1846 Obadiah W. Knight, who had married one of the Tennessee Hughes sisters, reached Dallas and established a little trading post where Cedar Springs Avenue now joins Oak Lawn Avenue. He built a small church and another building which is credited with being the first public school in Dallas County. He hauled the timber for the building from the piney woods with his oxen and Negro slaves, and the venture cost him $300 in gold." "He purchased 1,000 acres of land, which he placed under cultivation, and was the owner of slaves, although he was opposed to the principle of bartering in flesh and blood." A Dallas elementary school is named for him. There were nine sons and eight daughters in their family. 1 4 5
